We had the privilege of interviewing James Marcolin of COMPASS in NYC who is really doing something different with his marketing as a real estate professional. We've all heard of the usual prospecting methods and ways to market in an area, but we believe James has taken it to a new level with his neighborhood spotlights.
He calls is "A Walk With James" and it's a series of well shot videos that creatively encompass an area of New York City with James as your neighborhood navigator. In under a few short months he's gained hundreds of subscribers on Youtube and is well on his way to 10K Followers on Instagram.
We decided to ask him a few questions and pick his brain about his take on his own real estate marketing. As a real estate professional who is quickly becoming a known neighborhood expert in the city, we applaud his modern approach to marketing his business.

"I have worked in hospitality for most of my entire life, before in Europe and in the past 10 years in NYC. Before that I had a brief career in film production.
Attention to details, clear communication and an entrepreneurial passion is part of the way I live and work. Moving into Real Estate felt like an organic step in my life and career now.

SMILE and DRESS TO IMPRESS but with your own STYLE --> People will trust you if you seem comfortable with your style but also approachable. Smile even when somebody is not looking at you. It will give you strength and bring you positive energy all the time.
TALK TO EVERYONE --> Don't be shy! Go to events, interact with everyone, you never know where the next lead and/or friend will come from. I genuinely love people, so I am grateful to be comfortable doing so."

"Believe in yourself. Find a simple but efficient and consistent way of marketing yourself that works for you. And research...research all the time. There is always something to learn."

"Compass is a strong and passionate family. Seeing them growing so fast but also so efficiently has been such an inspiration as a human being and as a real estate agent. It is my motto as well.
I advise agents not to focus only on the commission split. Money comes and goes. Education, tools and support are what you should be focused on. At COMPASS I couldn't ask for more from a professional, technical, technology and personal level."
